OK, you can do similar with a traditional website - so long as you remember to title each page carefully - but Wordpress does it automatically.
SEO plug-ins - little package that you install once and just leave to do their stuff - work away in the background and tweek things about your posts for the best possible search engine optimization. They don't change the content of the post, just the way it appeals to the search engines. This is something that major corporations pay internet experts thousands and thousands of dollars to do but the majority of these plug-ins are free!
It gets better. Blogs automatically generate RSS feeds so people can subscribe easily. They'll automatically ping various services and search engines to let them know about site updates. Your blog can produce a sitemap to feed to Google and others so they always have the latest information about what you're doing.
